ROANOKE, Va.—Photo-Eyewear, a wearable technology company based here, has changed its name to PogoTec, Inc. and is expanding its scope of operations. The new name better reflects the depth and breadth of the electronic wearable device products and technologies it is developing and plans to commercialize, PogoTec said.

The company’s expansion involves the creation of the three business divisions: On-Track, Look & Shoot, and Pogo-Power. The new divisions will enable PogoTec to provide focused resources to drive key areas associated with electronic wearable devices, the company said.

On-Track has invented and developed a proprietary track that provides the ability to attach electronic wearable devices (such as a camera, sensors, hearing aids, etc.) to prescription and non-prescription eyeglass frames in what it described as “a cosmetically acceptable manner, which preserves the style and fashion integrity of the frames.”

Look & Shoot has been established to develop and either license or commercialize a small, proprietary camera that can attach to eyewear via the On-Track platform. Significant market applications include law enforcement and security, sports, vehicles, various occupations and consumer markets, according to PogoTec.

Pogo-Power was established to develop and either license or commercialize a proprietary wireless transfer system that allows most mobile electronic wearable devices to be wirelessly powered without the need of a stationary transmitter or receiver.

“We started our original development in pursuit of a very small camera for eyewear and the development effort has taken us far beyond anyone’s expectations,” stated PogoTec president Ron Blum, an optical industry veteran and entrepreneur whose name is listed on over 200 issued patents or pending patent applications worldwide related to electronic eyewear.

“We’ve ended up with three major proprietary offerings; an ultra-compact camera, smaller in all dimensions than the diameter of a dime; a first-ever eyewear mounting system that allows electronic wearable devices to be attached to eyewear without affecting the style or fashion look; and a personal truly mobile wireless power transfer system that will assist in powering most wearable electronic devices. And as you would expect, we have been very active and diligent filing patent applications that should protect our current and future inventions,” Blum said.

Read Ziegler, managing partner of Vantedge Group and a PogoTec board member, added, “Electronic wearable devices represent a huge, hot market that is forecasted to grow significantly over the next five years. PogoTec is being positioned to take full advantage of this growth with proprietary innovative solutions that turn market promise into reality.”

In addition to Blum, PogoTec’s management team includes industry veterans Bill Kokonaski, who serves as chief technology officer, Richard Clompus, OD, FAAO, who serves as vice president of communications and consumer interaction, and Jack McDougall, OD, who serves as vice president of business relations. PogoTec’s board of directors includes industry veterans Ed Greene, Richard Russo and Richard Lindstrom, MD.
