New Jobson Optical Research Survey Shows Online Ordering by ECPs on the Rise

NEW YORK—A newly released survey found that more ECPs are going online to facilitate orders of frames, lenses, contact lenses and other products. Some 65.8 percent of respondents reported their online ordering activity increased in 2011 versus 2010, according to Jobson Optical Research, which conducted the survey.

The survey, the “2011 ECP Internet Usage & Practice Website Study” measured eyecare professionals use of the internet and technology for both professional and personal use.

When asked does your practice order frames, lenses or contact lenses online, 69.3 percent said yes which represents an increase over 2010 when 59.8 percent of respondents said they used the internet for ordering. When it came to ECPs establishing a presence on social/professional networking sites, Facebook was the clear leader with 35.1 percent reporting they had an account used specifically for their practice. The next most popular site for practices was LinkedIn with 9.5 percent followed by Twitter with 8.8 percent.
