ALEXANDRIA, Va.—California has recently made changes to its Proposition 65 warning language requirements, which will be mandatory as of Aug. 31, 2018, according to an announcement from the Vision Council.

Also known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, Prop 65 sets out environmental regulations regarding toxic chemical substances so that Californians are notified to possible exposure of toxic substances in the products they purchase and their places of work. Certain segments of the California marketplace continue to be targeted for enforcement of Prop 65; historically, this has included eyewear cases, chains, plano sunglasses and over-the-counter reading glasses.

While the new languages requirements are not yet mandatory, companies can voluntarily elect to follow them now. The changes modify the current Prop 65 warnings and are explained, in detail, in The Vision Council’s newly released addendum to its guide found here.
