RALEIGH, N.C.--Nova Capital has finalized the acquisition of Reptile Sun, a producer of high-performance polarized sunglasses. The new company will operate under the name Reptile Sun LLC and will relocate its headquarters to Dallas.

"This acquisition, will provide the growth capital that the Reptile brand needs to allow it to be introduced to more sunglass consumers,” said Jason Tuttle, principal of Nova Capital. “Reptile is a high quality polarized sunglass brand that has been in the marketplace for 15 years, and is the best kept secret in the industry. Once the consumer wears our product they will be hooked for life. Reptile provides a sunglass product of high quality, with a great lens, at a competitive price point, all supported by incredible customer service and focus.”

Gary Adelman, president and CEO of the new Reptile Sun company, added, "This is a positive development for Reptile and for fans of the Reptile brand. We believe that relocating the company to Texas increases the exposure of the brand to the thriving Texas business climate where Reptile will benefit from a whole new audience. Texas will serve as an excellent launching pad for Reptile customers across North America. We have developed strategies for expanding Reptiles Rx business and for opening up opportunities internationally. Exciting new product introductions are scheduled for release in 2015 and into 2016.”

Adelman has over 10 years of sunglass industry experience, and was a key member of the management team of Maui Jim Sunglasses. He oversaw the initial acquisition of Maui Jim as it moved its corporate operations from Maui to Peoria, Ill., in 1996, and was a key member of the team that helped grow Maui Jim and expand its customer base. “I enjoyed my years at Maui Jim and owe a lot of my passion and experience in the sunglass business to my time working with Maui Jim’s Walter Hester and Mike Dalton. We created a lot of innovations in the sunglass space and we plan on continuing with that same passion and innovation and excitement at Reptile.”

Formerly based in Ashland, Mass., Reptile Sun is the brainchild of founder, Sam Kotob. As the original owner and CEO, Kotob directed the design, development and marketing of the Reptile brand of premium polarized sunglasses. With the sale of Reptile, Sam will be in a position to devote 100 percent of his efforts to his second company eyeOs Premium Readers.
“The sale of Reptile is well-timed, as the explosive growth of my company eyeOs demands my full attention. The rapid growth we’ve had over the past 16 months was beyond my dreams and exceeded all expectations. Therefore I will be focusing my time and effort on running eyeOs,” explained Kotob. “Reptile is a perfect fit for Gary and his team. Their combination of experience, resources and strategic plan for growth will provide the ideal platform to launch Reptile to the top of the sunglass market. I look forward to witnessing the expansion of this truly excellent polarized sunglass brand.”
