HAMILTON, Ohio—Last week, OneSight dedicated its third school-based vision center in the U.S. at Hamilton City Schools in Ohio - The OneSight Vision Center at Hamilton School Based Health Center. The school-based health center is the third of its kind in Ohio to provide fully integrated health care. Students, their family members and school district staff in Hamilton City Schools will have access to primary medical, dental, vision and behavioral health services at the health center. The center is scheduled to open on April 4.

Hamilton City Schools, located 35 miles north of Cincinnati, consist of 10,000 students. The vision center will provide comprehensive eye exams as well as the prescribing and dispensing of glasses when necessary. The purpose of the center is to keep students in school, healthy and ready to learn. Students will receive care during the school day, without requiring parents to leave work and potentially lose wages.

“We know that vision goes hand in hand with learning, yet there are still one in four students in the U.S. with an undiagnosed vision correction problem,” said Mony Iyer, OneSight’s senior director of strategy. “That is why OneSight’s sustainable solution in the U.S. focuses on students. As the school-based health care trend continues, OneSight is uniquely positioned to support vision care in schools to students across the U.S.”

By the end of 2016, OneSight will have partnered to open four vision centers across the U.S. and will provide access to nearly 100,000 students, more than doubling the current access number. In addition, OneSight has established partnerships in California, Nebraska, New York and Ohio that will result in seven new sustainable school-based vision center locations by the end of 2017.

OneSight is an independent global nonprofit 501(c)(3) founded and sponsored, in part by Luxottica, and is dedicated to providing sustainable access to a comprehensive eye exam and quality eyewear to those in need around the world. In 28 years, OneSight has helped 9 million people in 41 countries and 47 states see clearly and leading innovative programs and partnerships to help millions more, the organization said.
