CHICAGO—Opternative has added a new capability to its patient portal. The telehealth company, based here, now has the ability to route a patient’s online vision test results from its platform to a portal where designated doctors can review and dispense prescriptions for their own patients. Until now, Opternative's network of doctors reviewed all patient results whether they took the online vision test through directly through Opternative or through its partners, a company spokesperson told VMAIL.

Now Opterantive’s partners who offer the online vision test in their practice, retail storefront, or e-commerce website can dedicate a doctor or doctors to whom their patient's online vision test results are sent to. Those doctors affiliated with Opternative’s partners can then review their patients’ results in order to determine the recommended next steps in care; a renewed prescription or a comprehensive eye exam, the spokesperson said, adding that pricing for the test is determined by individual partners.

“This new feature allows eyecare providers and eyewear retailers to offer their patients the convenience of telemedicine and still remain at the forefront of their eyecare,” said Ayo Jimoh, CTO of Opternative. “We strive to help our partners empower their business and this technology aligns with that goal.”
