Latest News Opti to Offer More than 14 Hours of Education Programming By Staff Monday, January 4, 2016 12:24 AM MUNICH—Opti, held from Jan. 15 to 17, 2016 at the Fairground Messe Müunchen here, will offer a comprehensive education and speaker program with over 60 speakers accounting for 860 minutes of information in 37 presentations. Two issues will be the primary focus of the three-day program; vintage eyewear and digital optometry. The presentations, which are free of charge, will also be available in English. On Jan. 14, at the Opti forum, 136 students from optometry colleges, optometrists, trainers from professional optical academies, experts from market research institutes and ophthalmologists from Germany and abroad will debate in Hall C2 on the key topics affecting optometry. The “Vintage Summit” discussion will be all about design and style with four collectors of vintage eyewear, Mimi Lem (Belgium), Lee Yale (U.K.), Christian Metzler (Germany) and Matti Piipponen (Finland) will be some of the speakers included. They will be talking about their passion for collecting and will also explore the question: What impact does the frame design of the ‘70s and ‘80s have on modern frames? The Vintage Summit will be held twice; on Friday from 12:45 p.m. to 1:05 p.m. and Sunday from 3:45 p.m. to 4:05 p.m. There will also be a new exhibition with vintage cult design classics in the new !HOT area in Hall C1. A series of lectures on digital optometry will also be held at the Opti forum, the first time Opti has devoted time to this subject. It will include 3D comfort refractions, centering of lenses using digital measuring equipment and integration of the lenses using digitally controlled edging machines. Maik Hartung of Carl Zeiss Vision and Dr. Peter Baumbach of Aalen University will be among the experts who with journalists and publisher Jorg Spangemacher, will discuss “digital optometry and ophthalmic optics” on Sunday from 1:15 p.m. to 2:05 p.m. On Saturday from 2:15 p.m. to 3:05 p.m., there will be a discussion held titled “Refraction—where are we headed and what benefits do the new opportunities bring. From 3D refraction to self-refraction on the computer,” speakers include Rainer Kirchhubel, CEO of Oculus Optikgeräte GmbH, and Georg Stollenwerk, president of IVBS – Internationale Vereinigung Binokulares Sehen.A full list of presentations can be found at www.opti.de/programm.
