LOUISVILLE, Ky.—With ICD-10 scheduled to go into effect on Oct. 1, 2015, and no expectations for any more postponements, the National Association of Vision Care Plans (NAVCP), as well as a number of other optical organizations, have released resources to help with the transition. The NAVCP welcomes all eyecare providers who are making the transition to ICD-10 to click here for a tip sheet.

The NAVCP ICD-10 reference sheet includes Dos and Don’ts for coding using the new standards, tips on what you can do to prepare, a list of commonly used diagnosis codes specific to the optical industry and helpful website links.

Other organizations have also released resources to assist eyecare providers with the transition to ICD-10. For example, the American Optometric Association’s (AOA) ICD-Resources page features a long list of educational opportunities, including a webinar series with review questions and answers, a list of articles in various AOA publications and coding products such as books with codes for optometry and a mapping reference card.

Other resources available from the AOA include: The AOA's Third Party Center Coding Experts, who are available to answer questions about ICD-10 and other coding topics at askthecodingexperts@aoa.org; a 10-part ICD-10 webinar series developed by AOA's Coding Experts. The webinar series is available exclusively to members at aoa.org/coding. Kara Webb, the AOA's associate director for coding and regulatory policy, is also available to answer questions about ICD-10 and related topics at KCWebb@aoa.org. AOACodingToday.com, an online resource that offers CPT/ICD-9/ICD-10 information, is a no-cost, members-only benefit.

First-Insight, providers of MaximEyes software, features a webinar about its ICD-10 selection tool and a free electronic guide about “How to Make the Transition to ICD-10 in a Three-Step Process.” Eyefinity’s website offers an ICD-10 Resource Center with webinars, FAQs and a list of what you need to know. OD Excellence has partnered with John McGreal, OD, on an ICD-10 video web series.

Additional ICD-10 resources are also listed in conjunction with a Vision Monday Countdown to ICD-10 article that includes educational opportunities about ICD-10 from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, RevolutionEHR, PECAA, VisionWeb, Primary Eyecare Network, and others.
