NASHVILLE—Sandy Brown, a licensed optician practicing in Kentucky, was elected president of the Opticians Association of America (OAA) at the organization’s recent OptiCon conference, held here at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, Sept. 25 to 27. A former president of the Opticians Association of Kentucky and the SouthEastern Opticians Conference, Brown has served as a board member for the OAA for many years and most recently served as chair of the OAA’s Annual State Leadership Conference. She has also “taken leadership of the Opticianry Collaboration Forum's communication efforts in order to keep the entire profession of opticianry moving in the same positive direction,” according to an Oct. 6, 2015, announcement from the OAA. About the election, Brown said, “It is quite an honor for me to serve as president of this wonderful organization. For as long as I can remember, opticianry has been a major part of my life. I hope that I can repay the profession by serving as a president who helps to move our proud profession forward. It is my sincere belief that if the profession can continue to work together and focus on the importance opticians play in the overall eye health system that the sky is the limit to what we can accomplish.” The rest of the new slate of officers consists of Bob Reynolds (Ga.) 1st vice president, Dibby Bartlett (Mass.) 2nd vice president, Russ Fritz, Jr. (Conn.) secretary/treasurer; board of directors—Ron Harbert (S.C.) representing firm membership, Kyle Beaudet (Mass.) representing individual membership, Donna Hatch (Wash.) representing individual membership, Scott Shapiro (Ill.) at-large seat, and Eric Williams (Vt.) representing state associations and societies. The election took place during the OAA's annual delegate assembly meeting, which serves as the voting body of the association and consists of OAA members from throughout the U.S.
