LOUIS—Optometry Cares – The AOA Foundation has announced six recipients of its 2017 scholarships and the recipient of a “one-time Inspiration Award” that was added this year by the family of Dr. Larry J. Alexander. One of the objectives of the scholarship awards is to ensure that “today’s students have every opportunity to become tomorrow’s leaders,” the foundation noted.The individual scholarships and the respective winners are:• InfantSEE Scholarship Grant—Jason Foote, Southern College of Optometry, was honored with this first place grant ($7,500), and Alyssa Drew, Michigan College of Optometry—Ferris State University, was the runner-up ($3,000).• Bernard Maitenaz Scholarship—Paula Kutzner, Pacific College of Optometry, received this $10,000 scholarship.• Dr. Pat & Patrick Cummings Scholarship—Nathan Morrow, Indiana University College of Optometry, received this $5,000 scholarship.• Dr. Larry J. Alexander Scholarship for Education—Valerie Thatcher Tran, University of California-Berkley College of Optometry, received this $2,500 scholarship.
