ST. LOUIS—Optometry Cares—The AOA Foundation, the charitable organization of the American Optometric Association (AOA), announced its 2018 scholarship recipients. Optometry Cares administers numerous scholarships that encourage students to make a difference for their community and the profession of optometry. Optometry Cares and the AOA announceed the winners of the following scholarships for 2018: The Vision West, Inc. Scholarship for InfantSEE went to Peter Jacques and Lindsay Estel. Jacques, who attends the University of Missouri—St.Louis College of Optometry got first place winnings of $7,500; while the runner up Estel, who attends the Southern College of Optometry, received $3,000.

The Bernard Maitenaz Scholarship for $10,000 went to third-year student Spencer Lin from Salus University. The scholarship was sponsored by Essilor. The Dr. Pat and Patrick Cummings Scholarship, for $5,000 went to Kathleen Hoang, a fourth-year student from SUNY College of Optometry. This award was sponsored in part by Johnson & Johnson Vision.

Charlotte Love, a third-year student from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris received the Dr. Seymour Galina Scholarship for $2,500 and Sterlin Blakley, also a third-year student from the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Optometry, received the Dr. Larry Alexander Scholarship for Education for $2,500, sponsored in part by Optovue.
