ROANOKE, Va.—PogoTec Inc. has been awarded a U.S. patent for its small, lightweight attachable eyewear camera and related technology. The move comes on the heels of PogoTec’s announcement last week that it plans to launch an initial public offering and the commercial release of its camera, known as PogoCam.

The patent, 9,823,494 B2, was issued Nov. 21, 2017. It describes an “eyewear with camera system and attachment mechanism.” The patent covers both the camera and the eyeglass frame, which features a track on the temple upon which the camera is mounted as well as a wireless energy transfer system that powers the camera. Many other wearable electronic devices that could potentially be mounted on the frame, such as a hearing aid, sound amplifier, infrared vision system, pedometer, wireless cell phone, GPS and eye tracker are also mentioned.

PogoTec is marketing PogoCam through its ecommerce site and plans to launch the product soon on other online retail sites and in traditional brick and mortar retail locations in the U.S. The company is also targeting independent eyecare professionals, and has its PogoTrack technology to ClearVision Optical, FGX International and Argus Vision. In 2018, it plans to launch PogoCam in Europe through its ecommerce site and retail locations and through Alibaba.com in China.
