CHICAGO—Prevent Blindness is seeking nominations for the 2019 Jenny Pomeroy Award for Excellence in Vision and Public Health. The award will recognize an individual, team, or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the field of public health, as well as to vision and eye health worldwide, according to a release from Prevent Blindness. The deadline for submissions is Dec.13, 2018. President and CEO of Prevent Blindness, Jeff Todd, said “Promoting new and innovative approaches to vision and eye health challenges is essential to our mission of preventing blindness and preserving sight.

"The Jenny Pomeroy Award provides us the opportunity to recognize those who are successfully contributing to public health advancements that lead to proven outcomes for community-based eye health.”

Jenny Pomeroy, whom the award was named for due to her advocating for the role of public health in vision and eyecare services, served as CEO of Prevent Blindness Georgia from 1996 until 2013. A subcommittee of the all-volunteer Prevent Blindness Public Health and Policy Committee will review all nominations and select the award recipient.

The award consists of formal acknowledgement and a commemorative plaque to be presented at the 8th Annual Prevent Blindness Focus on Eye Health National Summit in Washington, D.C., on July 17, 2019. To receive the award, the recipient must be available to present at the 2019 Focus on Eye Health National Summit.
