SAN RAFAEL, Calif.—RestoringVision and FGX International have joined forces to launch Reading Glasses Day, a commemorative day dedicated to raising awareness about the lack of access to reading glasses in developing countries, and the impact vision correction through reading glasses can have on people’s lives. The first Reading Glasses Day is set to take place on Friday, June 7, 2019. According to RestoringVision, over 500 million people suffer from near vision impairment and its consequences due to lack of access to reading glasses.

As part of Reading Glasses Day, RestoringVision is raising $20,000 to create access to glasses for 25,000 people in impoverished communities in Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Tanzania. Donations are accepted on RestoringVision’s website, and the RestoringVision board will match the first $10,000 raised.
