NEW YORK—Robert Messa, a co- founder with Philip Wolman of For Eyes Optical /Insight Optical Manufacturing and its vice president for nearly 40 years, passed away unexpectedly on April 6.

Lisa Wolman, former CEO of For Eyes, said, “Bobby was the consummate man of his times—a brilliant Army engineer who reimagined the inner workings of optical manufacturing, and created a world class optical lab facility in Hialeah, Fla., that was first in class, design and quality.

“Bob was a gentleman in jeans who never tired from working besides his employees (friends and mentees). He manned an in-house hurricane center, and rode the Badlands on his Harley. A man of humility, humor, and generous friendship, he will be missed by all who knew him," she added.

A scholarship is being set up in Messa's honor, with more information to follow soon, Wolman said.
