IRVINE, Calif.—SDC Technologies (SDC), a supplier of premium abrasion resistant coating products, has acquired a majority membership interest of Lens Technology I (LTI). Based in La Mirada, Calif., LTI develops and manufactures high performance, proprietary UV curable, and thermal curable anti-scratch coatings.

“We’re excited to welcome the LTI team into the SDC family and look forward to significantly accelerating our growth in the ophthalmic coatings market. Our global customers will benefit from the combined resources of both companies; giving them access to expanded industry leading technologies, a broader product portfolio, superior service, and technical support. John Quinn, president of LTI, will continue with the company and will be responsible for managing operations as well as assuming an expanded role in the sales and marketing of UV products,” said Antonios Grigoriou, president and CEO of SDC Technologies.

“We are pleased to become a partner of a well-respected company like SDC Technologies,” said John Quinn. “LTI and SDC will further enhance and reinforce our valued relationships with customers and distributors around the world as we further expand business operations.”

SDC Technologies said it is planning to expand its global specialty coatings business through LTI’s UV curable technology and partnership with industry leading optical laboratories, distributors and equipment manufacturers.

Founded in 1986, SDC Technologies is headquartered here. The company was acquired by Mitsui Chemicals in 2008. SDC is the pioneer of innovative performance-based abrasion resistant coatings used in a variety of applications from aerospace and automotive parts, to vision eyewear.

LTI was formed in 1985 to address the optical industry’s requirement for hard coatings and tintable coatings for plastic and polycarbonate lenses. The company has received four Awards of Excellence from the Optical Laboratories Association for best in class coating equipment.
