BERKELEY, Calif.—The Seva Foundation—a global nonprofit eyecare organization that aims to prevent avoidable blindness globally—announced it has been named a “Best Bet,” from the pool of applicants to the MacArthur Foundation’s 100&Change competition. Best Bets were selected by the Center for High Impact Philanthropy based on their ability to offer high-impact philanthropic solutions to some of today’s most critical issues.

“Resolving vision problems is one of the most effective ways to combat poverty and expand opportunity,” said Kate Moynihan, executive director of Seva. “Being selected as one of the ‘Best Bets’ from this prestigious competition affirms the approach we have taken over 40 years to provide quality eyecare and build capacity to expand access to eye health services to people in developing areas.”

In their latest newsletter, Seva highlighted some of their efforts. The newsletter tells the story about a grandfather in Uganda whose sight was returned with a 15-minute cataract surgery and highlights the innovative contributions of a Seva volunteer who travels to India every year to train local practitioners on current best-practices.

The Foundation also has videos of their various efforts posted on their YouTube channel. Watch, “Dr Patrick's Story: 3 Decades of Eye Care in Uganda” here.
