GREEN BAY, Wis.—Michael Cantrell has joined Shopko Stores Operating Co., LLC as senior vice president, retail health, following Mike Bettiga’s retirement from the position, after 37 years with the company. Cantrell will provide strategic direction for Shopko's optical, pharmacy and Rx care departments. He will report to CEO Peter McMahon.

Cantrell, a registered pharmacist and licensed attorney, joins Shopko from Delhaize America, where he was vice president of pharmacy. Prior to Delhaize America, Cantrell held various executive positions at AmerisourceBergen and Longs Drugs.

“Mike brings high-level pharmacy experience, a proven track record of success and a fresh perspective to Shopko's pharmacies, optical departments and Rx Care areas," said McMahon. “His unique combination of legal and pharmacy experience will make him an invaluable resource as we look to strengthen and expand the health and wellness services provided to our customers.”

Shopko’s eyecare centers  were ranked as the country’s 14th largest optical retailer for calendar year 2013, according to Vision Monday’ s 2014 Top 50 U.S. Optical Retailers report.  Don Bye, who remains vice president of optical services for Shopko, will report to Cantrell. He will continue to be responsible for the company’s 132 Shopko Eyecare Centers, nine Shopko Hometown Eyecare Centers, and two Shopko Express Eyecare Centers. Bye told VMail that there will be no changes in the optical division, where it’s “business as usual,” he said.
