ORLANDO—The American Optometric Foundation (AOF), an affiliate of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO), has announced the recipients of two of its annual awards, the Bert C. & Lydia M. Corwin Residency Award and the Douglas W. Hopkins Primary Care Residency Award.

Caitlin J. Morrison, OD, cornea and contact lens resident at the State University of New York College of Optometry, was chosen by a committee of members in AAO’s Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies section as this year’s recipient of the Corwin Residency Award. The award promotes the practice and development of the field of contact lenses by providing incentive and support to talented optometric residents who demonstrate a passion and commitment to practice, research and education.

Morrison will receive a $2,000 education award and a $750 travel fellowship to attend the Academy 2016 Anaheim annual meeting in November.

Shannon K. Leon, OD, primary care/ocular disease resident at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry, was chosen by a committee of members in AAO’s Comprehensive Eye Care Section as this year’s recipient of the Hopkins Residency Award.

Douglas W. Hopkins, OD, FAAO, was a leader within AAO’s Primary Care Section who passed away unexpectedly in 2007. In his honor, friends and colleagues established the Douglas W. Hopkins Primary Care Fellowship Fund, which, after becoming fully endowed, issued its first award in 2012. The award is intended to promote the practice and development of the field of Primary Eye Care Optometry by providing incentive and support to talented optometric residents who demonstrate a passion and commitment to further clinical experience, research, and education.

Leon will receive a $2,000 education award and a $750 travel fellowship to attend the Academy 2016 Anaheim annual meeting in November.
