ALEXANDRIA, Va.—The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has once again updated its Import Alert 86-07, adding two companies. Jiangxi Look Optical, a company from China and Koadak Optical Ind Co., Ltd from Taiwan are the most recent additions to the Red List bringing the total number of red-listed foreign companies on the Import Alert 86-07 to 24.

The FDA’s Red List is made up of foreign manufacturers whose FDA regulated products, relating to the imports of impact-resistant lenses in eyeglasses and sunglasses, have not passed the impact-resistance test (the drop ball test). Since these products have been shipped with impact resistance certificates stating the items passed the drop ball test, they are considered misbranded merchandise by the FDA. These shipments are therefore to be detained by the FDA without physical examination if brought to the U.S. The goods will be held by U.S. Customs and will most likely be exported or destroyed.
