ST. LOUIS—Just ahead of its official launch at the American Optometric Association (AOA) Optometry’s Meeting this week, AOA MORE (Measures and Outcomes Registry for Eyecare) received commitments for participation from three additional electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Eyefinity EHR, Crystal Practice Management and Practice Director EHR by Williams Group will join Eyecare Advantage by Compulink Business Systems, Inc., MaximEyes by First Insight and RevolutionEHR by Health Innovation Technologies as EHR systems committed to providing anonymous patient diagnosis, disease and outcome information to the registry. Additional vendors are anticipated.

Powered by Prometheus Research, AOA MORE will integrate the data from doctors’ EHR systems to provide a systematic way of collecting patient data that helps enhance outcomes, procedures and standards of practice.

With many medical professions adopting clinical registries and an increasing emphasis on registries in meaningful use and other quality-driven initiatives, AOA MORE will serve as a secure, private database that integrates data from doctors’ EHRs to help report necessary Medicare data to obtain increased payments and avoid penalties, help with clinical improvement through self-benchmarking, support increased access and scope of care, and analyze population information.

Vision Monday introduced the AOA registry before it had a name in an article about Professional Registries in February 2015, and VMail reported on AOA MORE when its name was selected in March 2015.

Jeff Michaels, OD, AOA quality improvement and registries committee chair, said, "We are pleased these vendors have decided to participate with AOA MORE, and member sign-ups for the registry begin next week at Optometry's Meeting."

The registry is an AOA member benefit, but it will also be available to nonmembers for a fee. For more information, a video on the AOA website describes registries in general and AOA MORE specifically.
