ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Vision Innovation Partners, a portfolio company of the private equity firm Centre Partners, has acquired Busack Eye Center, a leading ophthalmology practice based in Frederick, Md., according to an announcement late last week. The acquisition enhances Vision Innovation Partners’ strong presence in Western Maryland and further expands its growing network of ophthalmology practices in the Mid-Atlantic region. Vision Innovation Partners’ acquisition of Busack Eye Center—its 14th transaction in just over two years—demonstrates a continued commitment to recruiting top-performing doctors and expanding patient access to care across its growing network of practice locations and surgery centers in the Mid-Atlantic, the announcement said.

“We are excited to be joining the Vision Innovation Partners family,” Dr. James Busack of Busack Eye Center said in the announcement. “Our partnership will allow me to focus on delivering high-quality care while benefiting from the significant resources of a fully integrated ophthalmology platform.”

The terms of the transaction were not announced. Vision Innovation Partners became the new name for Chesapeake Eye Care following a “rebranding” in mid-2019, as VMAIL reported. The new name better reflects the firm’s growing market leadership in ophthalmology within the Mid-Atlantic region, the firm said at the time, noting that it views the practices coming into the group “as true partners, with each contributing to our platform of innovation, best practices, efficiency and outstanding patient care.”

Vision Innovation Partners chief executive officer Michael Dunn said that as the group continues to build density in the Mid-Atlantic region, it is seeking “experienced and proven physicians with an ability to operate efficiently and deliver high-quality outcomes.”

He added, “Dr. Busack has been a crucial member of the Frederick community for many years and will be a tremendous asset to our growing clinical team.”

Vision Innovation Partners is backed by Centre Partners, a leading middle-market private equity firm focused on the health care and consumer sectors. Founded in 1986, Centre has offices in New York and Los Angeles and has invested approximately $2.5 billion of equity capital in more than 80 transactions since its inception.
