Latest News Visionworks and Davis Vision Announce National Sponsorship of ADA’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes By Staff Friday, January 30, 2015 12:24 AM SAN ANTONIO — Visionworks and Davis Vision have announced a national promotional sponsorship of the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. Visionworks and Davis Vision’s Focus on America community outreach program will participate in the Walk to Stop Diabetes in cities throughout the U.S. to showcase support and help rally communities to join. The eyewear retailer and managed vision care provider have committed to support the walks by providing key associates to promote and spread awareness of the importance of healthy vision for people with diabetes at many of the Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes events throughout the U.S. The leading cause of blindness in working-age American adults is diabetes and most people do not realize that an annual eye exam can uncover many diseases including high blood pressure and diabetes. Through this sponsorship, Visionworks and Davis Visions’ goal is to educate and encourage both children and adults to get yearly eye exams in an effort to protect eyes and overall health, the companies said. “At Visionworks, we’re passionate about helping people maintain healthy vision throughout their lives,” said Jim Eisen, CEO of HVHC Inc. and president of Visionworks. “Given that diabetes is the leading cause of blindness among adults in America, we are proud supporters of the Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and are gratified to collaborate in an effort to raise awareness of diabetes and the negative effects it can have on vision.” “We are proud to have Visionworks join in our efforts to raise awareness of diabetes and it’s complications,” stated American Diabetes Association’s Interim CEO, Suzanne Berry. “With the help of Visionworks, we are confident we can continue to improve the lives of people living with diabetes.” Visionworks and Davis Vision, both wholly-owned subsidiaries of HVHC, Inc., through their Focus on America platform, have a long commitment of giving back to the communities they serve. Since 2009, over 14,000 kids and adults have received a vision screening, 5,000 children have received free eye exams and eyeglasses and over $10 million in complimentary services has been provided.
