SAN ANTONIO—Visionworks and Davis Vision are launching a marketing initiative focused on raising awareness about the importance of children receiving annual eye exams called ‘Let’s Go See.’

For the 2015-2016 school year, Visionworks and Davis Vision are donating comprehensive eye exams and glasses to 10,000 children. To kick-start these efforts, they will be partnering with several non-profit organizations including Prevent Blindness and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America to identify those most in need.

“Thanks to Visionworks, we can help more children avoid becoming one of the many staggering eye health statistics,” Hugh R. Parry, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness said. “It’s amazing what can be accomplished when people come together with a vision for a healthy future.” Pam Iorio, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America added. “’Let’s Go See’ provides a unique opportunity to teach our Littles about the importance of annual eye exams and to gain access to vision screenings and eye exams, which are vital to their health, education and confidence in the classroom.”

According to reports from The Center for Health in Schools show that about 60 percent of students who are classified as problem learners have some sort of undetected visual problem. Additionally, according to Prevent Blindness, one out of every four children in the U.S. has a vision problem.

“Many parents take their children in for routine doctor and dental check-ups, but often wait for their child to express an issue before they take them to an eye doctor,” said Jim Eisen, president and CEO of HVHC Inc., and president of Visionworks. “We want to shift that thinking and ensure that every child in America receives an annual eye exam. Every year.”

Through this public awareness campaign, Visionworks and Davis Vision will not only work to educate the general public, they would like the public’s help in nominating children or organizations in need, Visionworks said in a statement.
