SEATTLE, Wash.— VOSH/International has named Jeffrey Marshall, OD, as its 2014 Humanitarian of the Year, to be honored Nov. 16 at the organization’s annual meeting in Denver.

In addition, this year VOSH has also elected to present a second award, the Lifetime Achievement Award, to Ruth McAndrews, OD, FVI. This award is not an annual award but is presented to recognize a person who has devoted a lifetime of service to humanity for improving visual welfare through leadership, invention, public health, developing sustainable eyecare and furthering the understanding and correction of refractive error, according to a statement from VOSH.

Marshall practices with Ossip Optometry in Indianapolis and is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Optometry. McAndrews, a practicing optometrist with Eye Care Pavilion in Davenport, Iowa, is past president of the Iowa chapter of VOSH, past president of the Mississippi Valley Optometric Society, and a member of the Iowa Board of Optometry Examiners. A graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry, she has participated in over 20 missions to provide eyecare to the needy in underdeveloped areas of the world.
