ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Video eyewear and smart glasses supplier, Vuzix Corp. (OTCQB: VUZI) announced a joint collaboration with protective eyewear company, Uvex Safety Group GmbH & Co. KG of Germany. Their first effort at exploring marketing and co-development of wearable technology with personal protective eyewear will be bundling Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses with Vuzix-branded i3 safety glasses, manufactured by Uvex, and custom mounting hardware for using the M100 on either the left or right eye.

“The current smart glasses revolution is bringing companies together that hold significant intellectual property in their respective industries,” said Vuzix president and CEO Paul Travers, who discussed the technology with VM editor Andy Karp in the May 15, 2013 edition of Eye2. “Uniquely in this case, many of the enterprise and medical market customers for Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses require safety glasses of some type. This makes the collaboration between Vuzix and Uvex Safety Group GmbH & Co. KG, Germany, a perfect fit as the parties offer best-in-class solutions for personal protective eyewear, wearable displays and smart glasses.”

The M100 contains a virtual display with integrated camera and processor running the Android OS to wirelessly connect via BT or WiFi to iOS or Android smartphones or other compatible devices. It is designed to run applications in standalone operation or connected to the internet. The M100 was selected as an Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Best of Innovations honoree at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, as reported Jan. 23, 2013 by Eye2.  In August, Vuzix completed a debt restructuring and public offering of common stock and warrants, as reported Aug. 14, 2013 by VMail.
