Product: OrCam MyEye 2 and OrCam MyReader 2
Top Line: As part of its latest software update, OrCam Technologies has introduced voice commands to the OrCam MyEye 2 and OrCam MyReader 2 artificial vision devices. Users can now ask their device to perform certain functions. The new software also provides users a range of other new features, including Bluetooth connectivity and barcode learning. OrCam devices use powerful artificial vision technology to communicate vital visual information via audio to users. Magnetically mounted on the wearer’s eyeglasses or sunglasses frame, OrCam MyEye and MyReader are the only wearable artificial vision tech activated by an intuitive pointing gesture or simply by following the wearer's gaze—allowing for hands-free use without the need of a smartphone or Wi-Fi. OrCam devices instantly and discreetly read text off of any surface, while OrCam MyEye can also seamlessly recognize faces, products, barcodes, and currency notes.
Close Up: The new voice recognition feature allows users to access menu options by speaking certain commands to their device. These commands include, "tell time", "speak faster", "speak slower", "connect to Bluetooth audio device", and others. The voice commands allow users, particularly those who are blind, visually impaired, or have issues with dexterity, to access and change the menu options more easily.
Other new features in the new software include Bluetooth connectivity and barcode learning (for OrCam MyEye only). The new Bluetooth connectivity feature allows OrCam users to pair their OrCam MyEye or OrCam MyReader device with Bluetooth headphones or speakers. Highlighted as important in user feedback, this feature gives greater flexibility as to how and where the device can be used.
The new barcode learning mode allows users to save barcodes that are not already included in OrCam’s pre-loaded barcode database. Users can now instantly identify their favorite products simply by scanning the barcode.
Vital Stats: The new software is available to all existing OrCam users, and is downloaded automatically when the device is connected to Wi-Fi.
