Quick Take: Safilo’s Polaroid brand has launched Heritage, a unique project that brings together capsule collections from different eras, starring original pieces revisited in line with the latest trends and retraces the brand’s history.
Specifics: Each collection features timeless silhouettes reinterpreted with a contemporary twist. The Heritage collection is a tribute to the innovation that has characterized the brand since its origins.
Selling Points: The inspiration for this first capsule collection for the Heritage Project comes from when the Chrysler Corporation ran the first commercial 3D movie filmed using Edwin Land’s polarized sheets at the 1939 World Trade Fair in New York City. Clip-ons make a comeback in the collection: the new PLD 6045/S acetate model features a rectangular shape with the front bearing the original wording “press,” which indicated where on the frame one needed to apply pressure to attach the clip-on to the glasses, while the original metal mount detail is visible on the front. The PLD 6046/S and PLD 6047/S acetate models are another evolution of clip-ons, reinterpreted with an easy-to-wear attitude, yet staying true to the original “press” detail on the lenses. The PLD 6047/S model features a squared design while the PLD 6046/S can be described as a soft round. The PLD 6048/S and PLD 6049/S metal sunglasses are a contemporary take on clip-ons. The first features a pilot shape, while the latter a squared design, but they both include the original “press” detail on the lenses and metal hook on the front.
