Silhouette Names Two New Senior Management Roles for U.S.

GREEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Silhouette has named two senior executives for the U.S., Diana Downs has been promoted to key accounts and business development manager, a new position at the company, and Heinz Pichler, has been promoted to national sales manager.

Downs has been with Silhouette for 10 years and was recognized as Silhouette’s Regional Manager of The Year in 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Prior to joining Silhouette, she held a national sales manager position for two years at Allison Eyewear and was also national sales manager, vice president of sales division at Marcolin USA for five years.

In her new role, Downs will be responsible for the management and growth of key accounts. In addition, she will develop and maintain integral partnerships within the optical industry.

Heinz Pichler was hired in 2012 as Silhouette’s brand manager of Adidas Eyewear and brings with him over 12 years of experience in the optical industry. He has previously held sales positions at Marchon Eyewear. In his position as brand manager at Silhouette, Heinz was in charge of product and marketing development of the Adidas Eyewear brand, specific to the U.S. market. He helped to develop national sales strategies, manage the implementation of key sales initiatives, and aided in the creation of training materials focused on brand education and competent sales techniques.

In his first year at Silhouette, Adidas orders grew significantly and this progress has continued since. His role also involved the training and motivation of the brand team and account executives to attain incremental growth, while maintaining international communications with the Silhouette home office for U.S. brand alignment.

Tony Sommer
Sommer to Head Sales for B+L’s U.S. Vision Care Division

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Bausch + Lomb has named Tony Sommer head of sales for its U.S. vision care division.

Sommer will also help plan, develop and execute growth plans, and strategic business strategies to maximize market opportunities and grow the lens product portfolio, the company said.

“Tony is a talented and transformative leader who has an impressive track record of driving results through promoting leadership, accountability, and collaboration, while intensely focusing on innovation,” said Mark McKenna, vice president and general manager, U.S. vision care, Bausch + Lomb.

Sommer has nearly two decades of diverse experience in the packaged goods, health care and medical device industry where he’s served a variety of U.S. and international roles across a number of business divisions with leading companies including General Mills, Coca Cola, and CIBA Vision/Novartis. Immediately before joining Bausch + Lomb, Sommer was head of sales, consumer health care, for Meda Pharmaceuticals, Inc., in Atlanta, GA, where he was also responsible for sales operations and shopper marketing. Prior, Sommer was the vice president, sales and marketing at SoloHealth.

From 2004 to 2010, he served in multiple roles with CIBA Vision, including brand marketing director and executive sales director, key accounts. As the brand marketing director, he grew the daily disposable contact lens business and launched several new products. After transitioning to sales management, Sommer led CIBA Vision’s key account sales team.

Visionix USA Announces the Addition of Steward

Advantica Names Olsen Mid-Atlantic Senior Account Executive

ST. LOUIS—Vision and dental benefits provider, Advantica has named Timothy H. Olsen as senior account executive, to be based in Fairfax, Va. He will handle vision and dental benefit commercial sales and key account management for the Mid-Atlantic region.

He brings more than three decades of insurance industry sales experience with United Concordia Companies, Inc., ING Employee Benefits, Cigna, and The Equitable, where he was responsible for selling varying combinations of vision, dental, and medical plans, as well as other types of coverage.
