GrandVision N.V. to Appoint Sephora’s Stephan Borchert as Next CEO

SCHIPHOL, The Netherlands—The supervisory board of GrandVision N.V. (EURONEXT: GVNV), the major global optical retail operating group based here, announced it intends to appoint Stephan Borchert as the CEO of GrandVision by, at the latest, the end of April 2018. Borchert will be proposed as an additional member of the company’s management board to shareholders at an extraordinary shareholders meeting which will be called for Dec. 14 this year.

Borchert will succeed Theo Kiesselbach, who announced in May 2017 that he will retire during 2018, after 16 years with the company.

Borchert is currently EMEA president of cosmetics retailer Sephora, and he will join GrandVision N.V. in January 2018, the announcement said.

Borchert, 47, a German national, has in-depth retail experience with a variety of service oriented retailers. He began his professional career at fashion retailer Peek & Cloppenburg and then became a partner at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.

He went on to become president of Red Earth in Hong Kong and managing director of the international business of multinational cosmetics company Douglas, leading 750 retail locations in 18 countries. He then became member of the Executive Board at Celesio, which included responsibility for over 2,200 company owned pharmacies in numerous countries. As EMEA president of Sephora he managed more than 1,000 locations in 23 countries.

The company’s statement added, “The Supervisory Board of GrandVision N.V. is pleased to have attracted such a broadly experienced international retail professional and is confident that its growth strategy will continue successfully with the combined experience of Stephan Borchert and the GrandVision leadership team.”

Alain Miklitarian Joins Gold & Wood as Artistic Director

LUXEMBOURG—Citing a strong growth year, domestically and internationally, Gold & Wood founder, Maurice Leonard, has joined forces with eyewear designer Alain Miklitarian, creator of the international Alain Mikli brand, to join the Gold & Wood team. Miklitarian will take the position of artistic director with the company effective with the Silmo exhibition, held Oct. 6 to 9 in Paris.

Leonard said he wanted to “capture the momentum and change the trajectory for the Gold & Wood brand. Our industry is craving creativity, something unique yet wearable, luxurious designs with noble material inspired by genius, I cannot wait to see them. Alain is not looking to change our DNA, just to enhance the experience, keeping the same spirit that Gold & Wood has maintained for over 25 years. Miklitarian said he is “inspired by the challenge of the material, having 12 exotic and rare woods from around the world to work with.” In recent releases, the Gold & Wood collection has combined different material such as silk, carbon fiber and Japanese titanium with its wood materials.

Robert J. Stevens Joins SightLife Surgical as Chief Technology Officer

SEATTLE—SightLife Surgical an organization committed to transforming the cornea ecosystem by enabling innovation and access to treatments for corneal blindness, announced that Bob Stevens has joined the company as its first chief technology officer.

“There is no one better suited than Bob to help SightLife Surgical improve corneal care worldwide,” said William Link, PhD, SightLife Surgical board chair. “The depth of his experience will not only build our research and development capacity, but will also help shape our entire business strategy moving forward.”

Previously, Stevens worked at Novartis/Alcon Laboratories for nearly 35 years. During his tenure, he spent more than 20 years leading all research and design for surgical products in the field of ophthalmology. The technology he helped bring to market significantly impacted the practice of medicine and positioned Alcon as the leading company in manufacturing of ophthalmic surgical products.

Stevens introduced several industry-leading innovations, including a proprietary intraocular lens material, AcrySof, along with proprietary intraocular lens designs, Viscoelastics and surgical instruments for both anterior and posterior segment surgery.
