KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Kim Steven Scheidler, director of education at Sutherlin Optical, passed away on Oct. 14. He was 58 years-old and lived in Blue Springs, Mo. Scheidler, who had a history of heart problems, had been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack the previous week. He was treated and released, but then had a fatal heart attack the following day, according to Steve Sutherlin, president of the Kansas City-based optical laboratory.

After a lengthy career as a dispenser and consultant, Kim had a 21-year career at Sutherlin Optical, where he was one of the first in the industry to serve as a director of education. He trained countless ECPs and their staffs, advancing their knowledge of new product innovations, dispensing tips and tricks, proper use of tools and how to manage their dispensary.

“He was an integral member of the Sutherlin management team and a key factor in its success. We have lost a great friend and a great contributor to our industry,” said Sutherlin.
