Tallier Appointed New CEO of Ogi Eyewear

MINNEAPOLIS— Ogi Eyewear has appointed Joseph Tallier as their new chief executive officer, effective Jan. 1, 2015.

Tallier has been part of the Ogi Eyewear team for six years. He started his career at Ogi in 2008 as vice president of global sales. During that time, his visionary leadership was instrumental in growing sales at Ogi Eyewear by 300 percent, communicating the company’s value through marketing, leading the direction of the design vision, and promoting worldwide expansion, the company said. He became an equity partner in 2012 prior to being named CEO.

Tallier said, “I am incredibly excited and grateful to lead Ogi’s dynamic management team, outstanding sale force and motivated support team. This is a very exciting time to be appointed CEO as we continue to grow the market segment of affordable luxury that we have been so successful in pioneering.”

Tallier has 28 years of experience in the wholesale optical industry, starting as a sales representative which led to management positions in several wholesale optical companies in the U.S.

 

Shamir Promotes Naftalovich to President of Shamir N.A.

SAN DIEGO, Calif.— Shamir Optical Industry, the Israel-based spectacle lens manufacturer, announced that Raanan Naftalovich, the longtime executive and CEO of its San Diego-based Shamir Insight subsidiary, has been appointed president of Shamir North America. While maintaining his duties as CEO of Shamir Insight, Naftalovich will now also oversee all of the Shamir sites and activities in North America.

Naftalovich has worked with Shamir since 1990. For the past 10 years, he has held the position of chief executive officer of Shamir Insight, leading the company to double digit annual growth and positioning it as a lead subsidiary of the Shamir Group, which consists of over 20 distribution centers worldwide all under the direction of Shamir Optical Industry located in Israel.

Naftalovich has played a key role in the development and expansion of Shamir’s business throughout the U.S. With his focus on growing business, Shamir Insight now has over 400 partners and labs across the U.S., with 111 of those designated as “Freeform” lab partners. Naftalovich has been instrumental in launching Shamir’s free-form offering in the U.S. and played a primary role in successfully introducing innovative designs to the market.

Bortuzzo to Head Kering Eyewear in the Americas

NEW YORK—Longtime optical eyewear industry executive, Antonio Bortuzzo, has joined Kering Eyewear, a division of luxury fashion company Kering as the head of the Americas for the company. Kering Eyewear is gearing up later this year and into next year with the establishment of its own directly-controlled international eyewear business.

Massimo Renon, global head of sales for Kering Eyewear, said, “Kering is pleased to announce that Antonio Bortuzzo has joined the company. We are excited to welcome Antonio, a leading professional in this industry, to lead the growth of our business in this strategic region and who will greatly contribute to the achievement of our objectives.” Renon added that Bortuzzo, who will oversee Kering Eyewear’s activities in North and South America, will be based in New York.

Bortuzzo has been involved in the eyewear business for some time. He was most recently president of Viva international Group, just prior to that group being acquired by Marcolin Group in Oct. 2013.

His prior roles included CEO of Alain Mikli International, as well as serving as CEO of eyewear wholesaler Allison S.p.A and general manager of Marcolin Group prior to that.

The transition of brands formerly licensed by Kering in the eyewear industry had previously been announced in September 2014, when Kering made the strategic decision to move away from a licensing approach to develop its own global portfolio of luxury and sport & lifestyle brands in eyewear and sunwear.

Kering said it will fully control the eyewear value chain, from design to product development and supply chain, and from branding and marketing to sales. Kering Eyewear CEO is Roberto Vedovotto, former CEO of Safilo Group, who joined Kering in November 2013.

 

Charmant Promotes Berghuys to VP of Operations, Announces Additional Executive Appointments

MORRIS PLAINS, N.J.—Charmant has announced promotions to several in management roles, creating a new executive staff to support the newly appointed Charmant USA president, Kikuo Urayama named on Jan. 7, 2015. The most senior promotion was Dee Berghuys, who moved from director of product and marketing to become vice president of operations. Berghuys will now oversee stock control & logistics and IT, as well as product and marketing.

“I am very excited to take on this new role within Charmant,” Berghuys said. “I’ve worked closely with the managers and directors in these departments for years, and I’m confident we will continue to work well together, while implementing any needed changes to increase workflow and productivity.”

Additional promotions included Keith Andreotta, formerly manager of human resources to director of general affairs; Wataru Iwasaki, formerly manager of corporate planning to director of corporate planning; Doug Fryer, formerly manager of inventory and product control to director of stock control and logistics; Michele Ziss, formerly brand manager to director of product and marketing.

 

TearScience Names Boorady CEO

MORRISVILLE, N.C.— TearScience, a privately held medical device company, has named Joseph Boorady president and CEO. Dr. Boorady joins TearScience from Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc. where he was senior vice president of U.S. sales, marketing, and customer service for all medical products.

TearScience current CEO and co-founder Tim Willis, will turn over CEO duties. “Boorady’s professional expertise and commercial track record make him the ideal candidate to lead TearScience to the next level,” said Willis.

Boorady’s more than 20 years in the industry as an eyecare professional, educational leader, entrepreneur and corporate executive began after graduating in 1993 from the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry with clinical honors.

He has 13 years of clinical experience as the founder and owner of several primary eyecare practices in New York and New Jersey, and 10 years with SUNY College of Optometry, where his last position was vice president clinical affairs and executive director overseeing 36 clinics throughout New York City.

Boorady then spent three years as an equity partner and COO of an eyecare software start-up. He also became an alumnus of the Harvard Business School, finally joining Carl Zeiss Meditec in 2009 where he led significant U.S. growth at the ophthalmic technology giant.

 

Prisme Optical Appoints Pottecher U.S. National
Sales Manager

BLAINVILLE, Quebec—Prisme Optical Group has announced the appointment of Guillaume Pottecher as the new U.S. national sales manager. He will report to Carole Menard, vice president of sales.

Pottecher will be responsible for sales, networking, territory development and training, as well as recruiting qualified sales representatives, business relations for groups and important key accounts in the U.S. He is a 15-year optical industry veteran, most recently working with De Rigo USA and previously introduced the Logo brands like Tag Heuer to the U.S. market.

EyeXam Names Keare President

SAN JOSE, Calif.—EyeXam announced the expansion of the leadership team with the addition of Doug Keare, a health technology entrepreneur, who has joined as president. Keare was founder and CEO of RallyOn, a digital health startup in the corporate wellness space and also served as vice president at the medical device companies Accuray and ADAC Labs. Keare holds an MBA from Stanford University, and a BA in Economics from Dartmouth College.
