More U. S. employees are dissatisfied with their healthcare benefits and their chances for promotion than they were in 2008, according to the annual Work and Education poll by Gallup. The dissatisfaction with healthcare benefits increased 11 percentage points in the past several years, the biggest change in the poll of almost 500 adult workers, followed by a 7 percentage point increase in dissatisfaction over the potential for promotion at work.

The following job issues caused the most dissatisfaction:

34% On-the-job stress
30% Health-insurance benefits
30% Compensation
28% Employer retirement plan
26% Chances for promotion
20% Vacation time off
19% Recognition for work accomplishments
18% Job security
17% Amount of work required on the job

If you have not conducted a recent Employee Satisfaction or Employee Engagement Survey, it might be a good time to do so. Once you have a clear view from your employees of what they are most highly motivated by and engaged in—along with what is demotivating and affecting their ability to be fully engaged and productive—you can develop a clear and focused effort to ensure you have a truly engaged and satisfied team.
