Alcon’s Dailies Total1 lenses provide comfort and breathability, both of which are important assets to athletes. BRADENTON, Fla.—Alcon traveled to IMG Academy, the world-renowned multi-sport training and educational institution, to evaluate the visual-motor skills of its athletes and bring them the latest innovations in vision care technology, including Dailies Total1 contact lenses. Alcon also invited professional football player Victor Cruz to participate in the eye evaluations and share his perspective on the importance of vision with IMG Academy student-athletes and campers. “When I’m on the field, I don’t want to think about my eyes; I need my contact lenses to be comfortable and perform at a high level,” said Victor Cruz, a player for the N.Y. Giants. “That’s why I wear Dailies Total1 contact lenses.” Members of the IMG Academy varsity football team followed alongside Cruz as sports vision doctors from High Performance Vision Associates, also known as the “A” Team, coached the athletes through a “vision training camp.” The camp was comprised of 13 vision tests to determine how well the athletes’ eyes perform in a game setting. Founded by Donald S. Teig, OD, the “A” Team—High Performance Vision Associates—offers specialized services for athletes, law enforcement professionals, aviation personnel and people with hobbies and careers that require visual skills that go above and beyond the norm. The team is composed of 21 practitioners that have completed Teig’s 16-hour consulting program in high performance vision. Alcon’s Dailies Total1 lenses provide comfort and breathability, both of which are important assets to athletes. The athletes completed a variety of tests, including eye-hand coordination, tracking ability, response time, focus agility, visual acuity and eye dominance. Student-athletes were then given a personal assessment of their visual acuity, helping them understand how imperative vision is to their sports performance. The athletes were also educated on different ways they can help improve their visual acuity, through eye exercises or with corrective contact lenses. “Dailies Total1 contact lenses are designed for performance,” said Carla Mack, OD, FAAO, director of professional and clinical support at Alcon. “This lens provides both comfort and breathability that allows athletes at all levels—from elite pros to weekend warriors—to have an exceptional wearing experience.”
