LAS VEGAS—The Corporate Optometry Reports (COR) meeting, held here last month in conjunction with Vision Expo, drew a cross-section of industry executives for an open discussion of key developments and issues that are the hot topics in eyecare today.

Among the topics addressed in the afternoon session were: telehealth, secure communications and privacy issues, the medical model adoption trend, and myopia management challenges and opportunities.

Alcon, a division of Novartis, sponsored the session held at the Sands Convention Center.

JeanMarie Davis, OD, FAAO, director of professional relations/practitioner partnerships at Alcon, said in her welcoming remarks that the COR program is designed to provide industry executives a broad swath of information about important topics. “We’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about these topics in the industry,” she said.

Ben Nobles, Alcon’s vice president of sales, provided an update on the company’s planned spinoff next year from parent company Novartis.

Other speakers at the session included Larry Macapagal, OD, of the Permanente Medical Group, who spoke about the future opportunities of telehealth; Marc Haskelson of The Compliancy Group, who spoke about HIPAA and secure communications; Richard Edlow, OD, who is known as The Eyeconomist and who addressed the concept of the medical model adoption in eyecare, and Matt Oerding of Treehouse Eyes, who discussed the opportunity of myopia management.

Marge Axelrad, senior vice president and editorial director of Jobson’s Vision Monday, and Jobson’s Marc Ferrara, chief executive of the Information Services division, also addressed the meeting.
