WICHITA, Kan.—Envision announced the return of the Research Proposal Competition to the 2016 Envision Conference, taking place Sept. 7 to 10 in Denver.

The Envision Conference is a multidisciplinary conference that gives professionals who work with individuals with low vision the chance to receive updates and collaborate on the latest ideas and advancements in vision rehabilitation, research, practice and technology. It is sponsored by the Envision Research Institute (ERI).

As part of the competition, an intensive workshop will be offered to assist attendees with developing successful research proposals. One team of workshop participants will receive up to $10, 000 in seed funding and access to ERI resources to launch the proposed study.

“The Research Proposal Competition is intended to accelerate and sponsor promising new research directions that have direct impact on the practice of low vision rehabilitation,” said Laura Walker, PhD, executive director of ERI. “It will encourage and facilitate research/clinical collaborations that result through open discussions at the Envision Conference.”

This year’s competition workshop has been divided into three sessions: Forming a Translational Research Team discussion by Dr. Walker; a Statistics Boot Camp for Clinicians by Aaron Johnson, PhD, that addresses the meaning of current statistics used in studying low vision as well as the best methods for calculating them; and the Research Study Design and Proposal Writing session where Dr. Walker will walk participants through how to design a study and draft a research proposal.
