SCENE + HEARD: Meetings American Academy of Optometry to Present With American Academy of Ophthalmology at Annual Meeting By Staff Friday, April 24, 2015 12:21 AM NEW ORLEANS—Registration is now open for the 94th annual meeting of the American Academy of Optometry, which will feature the first-ever joint symposium the optometric organization will present with the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, the joint session on “Amblyopia and Beyond: Evidence-Based Pediatric Eye Care” is among the highlights of Academy 2015, for which registration and housing are now open. Early bird registration ends Aug. 3, 2015, for the event to be held Oct. 7 to 10, 2015, at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.Attendees can choose from over 250 hours of lectures and workshops, 16 Section and Special Interest Group symposia, hundreds of scientific papers and posters, and a selection of social events. More than 200 booths will also be on display in the exhibit hall.The first-ever joint session by the two organizations will cover evidence-based pediatric eyecare addressed by Donald Mutti, OD, PhD, FAAO; Bruce Moore, OD, FAAO; and Susan Cotter, OD, MS, FAAO; and American Academy of Ophthalmology representatives Jonathan Holmes, MD; Mary Lou Collins, MD; and Jean Ramsey, MD. An identical program will be repeated at the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting in Las Vegas in November.This year’s American Academy of Optometry Plenary Session, “Today’s Research, Tomorrow’s Practice: Recognizing and Treating Ocular Melanomas,” will feature the world renowned team of Drs.
