TEMECULA, CALIF.—The California Optical Lab Association Meeting was held April 23 to 24, here, drawing over 100 lab and vendor attendees for networking and education. The two-day event started with a golf tournament followed by the Good Fellow and Vendor Appreciation Banquet. Joe Maris, Vision Service Plan, was honored as the 2015 Good Fellow.

Day two included educational sessions with four topics covered before lunch: Prop 65, What it Means to You Now and Going Forward with information on the forthcoming changes to the law that informs consumers and employees about the possible expose to substances that may cause cancer, birth defects or reproductive harm.

Managed Vision Care—a West Coast Approach was a panel discussion moderated by Richard Sanchez, managing partner, Visibility Management and featuring panelists Jeff DeRose, director, Plexus Optix, VSP and Gavin Galimi, executive VP and general counsel and compliance officer for March Vision.

Inside the Mind of the Young Optometrist was a panel discussion moderated by Lori Treadwell, chair, The Vision Council featuring panelists Candi Kimura, OD, and Natalie Li, OD. Wrapping up the presentations was Michael Karlsrud with his call to action…Transforming Sacred Cows into Purple Cows.
