NEW YORK—California cool reigns supreme with the limited edition eyewear collection stemming from a collaboration between San Diego-based eyewear brand, Raen and Los-Angeles-based design label, M.R.K.T. (Mad Rabbit Kicking Tiger).

The collaboration updates the vintage-inspired Remmy frame from Raen with an exclusive Kelp colorway. The frame features a split matte and polished finish, M.R.K.T’s metal foil logo on the temple tips and CR-39 lenses by Carl Zeiss.

“In California, we don’t have a lot of seasonality so we wear our sunglasses everywhere, year-round,” Mark Willingham, marketing manager of Raen said. “From checking the surf in the morning to our commute home and everything in-between, these shades fit all occasions.”

M.R.K.T, known for its architecturally designed accessories and use of materials, has designed a case from their patented “Supr Felt” material, a hyper-dense nonporous industrial felt that provides structure and weather protection. The interior of the case features “Smrt Felt,” a softer cushioned material to protect the eyewear from scratches.

Additionally, the case is designed with no stitching and is inspired by traditional Japanese origami, folding flat for storage.

“We wanted to create a case that embodied the simplistic lifestyle of California, while reflecting our shared appreciation for modern shapes and innovative design,” Shaun Nath, CEO of M.R.K.T. said. “It’s the perfect case for sunglasses for the current creative set.”

Retailing for $150, the limited 200 pairs of sunglasses are available at select retailers and online at www.raen.com.
