Philly EyeWorks

Philly EyeWorks is a new brand of eyewear that celebrates individuality and diversity while remaining affordable. Their debut collection offers an eclectic array of shapes coupled with an almost endless possibility of color options, so Philly EyeWorks frames are exactly as wild or subdued as you are (or want to be). Customers can expect slight variances in the colors as each frame is colored individually, by hand, making each pair of Philly EyeWorks frames a one-of-a-kind work of art.

“With Philly EyeWorks, consumers can have an authentic and exclusive pair of glasses that are affordable and they can feel a part of something cool because of the effort, creativity and energy that we put in to the branding aspect.”

What are you selling?

We operate a shop that sells authentic eyewear in downtown Philadelphia, so when Warby Parker came out they quickly became a business threat. We created Philly EyeWorks, an affordable, colorful, hand finished, customizable brand with great shapes. There are 36 front colors, 22 temple colors and they can be mixed and matched creating 792 possible combinations. The line has been really well received all throughout the city and has opened up a new demographic for us. The feedback has been great due to word of mouth, and repeat buyers are now the norm. About three months ago, we began to wholesale to other ECPs.

Who’s buying it?

Philly EyeWorks seems to do well with a wide range of people because we offer so many colors and a diverse group of shapes. College kids, hipsters, artists, urban youth and funky (slightly) mature folks are just some of the groups of people that the brand speaks to.

Why do they like it?
I think it’s the combination of price point and the fact that Philly EyeWorks are really cool and unusual—that makes them so popular. Philly EyeWorks have the look and feel of an expensive brand, but they aren’t. We think that consumers are really responding to this brand because of its authenticity, price, coolness factor and the fact that Philly EyeWorks are just so unusual, in a market saturated with the same old stuff. We present the brand just as we do our other brands, like Lindberg, Oliver Peoples or Barton Perriera. We think that the presentation is on par with the established brands that we have been selling for many years, and we think that the presentation is a big component of the success of Philly EyeWorks.
