“I think the fact it is not branded and has a more boutique feel to it helps, but the shapes and colors are what sells it.”

What are you selling?
A couple of years ago, we attended the AOA convention in Chicago, and ProDesign was there. I fell in love with it instantly—I love the brilliant colors and combinations, the quality of the frames and most of all the feel of them. Our number one women’s frame is the 1700 in any color and our number one men’s styles are the 1408 or the 1280.

Who’s buying it?
ProDesign speaks to a variety of women from all backgrounds and different ages. We have people like teenage girls down to their grandmothers who wear ProDesign. Men who appreciate the comfort and durability of well-designed frames gravitate toward ProDesign as well.

Why do they like it?
Both men and women like the feel of the frames, and when you pick them up you can feel that these are handmade quality. The materials and finishes are meticulous. I think that our optical also has a known standard of quality and service, so not only does the patient know that we only carry quality items, but when we recommend these frames, and also mention one of our founding doctors, Dr. Brenda Smoke wears a pair and loves them, the women and men know it’s true quality. For those reasons and the fact that the styles are wearable and comfortable really makes people gravitate toward them. I find that what we recommend, based on our knowledge of the patient and seeing what they prefer, or what fits them best outweighs anything else.

Are you a retailer or an ECP who has a frame or collection you think others should “Check.Out”?
