STYLE Crown Jewels By Jamie Wilson Monday, August 29, 2016 8:00 AM Click to view a PDF of Crown Jewels. WHO: Royalty like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Anne Hathaway in the Princess Diaries, Gem and the Holograms, the singer Jewel and the Lorde song, “Royal.” WHAT: All that glitters isn’t gold, sometimes it just happens to be jewel or gem embellishments. Every so often, jewels and gems have their moment in the sun, and that moment has come around again. Whether it is on the temple or on the frame fronts, these embellishments add a touch of sophistication to each look. WEAR: (L to R) These frames are all about touches of elegance instead of full-on sparkle and shine, and McGee Group’s Badgley Mischka Minette sun frames in midnight do just that. The dark blue color combined with silver jewel embellishments on the upper outside of the temples are a classic combination. There is no way we could cover gems and jewels without including Swarovski. The SW5171 frame in black and white from Marcolin features a grey accent on the temple outfitted with glittery stones. It’s an elegant and subtle look for Swarovski that adds dimension to this ophthalmic frame. Nouveau’s Phoebe frames feature a dual tone color combination of brown fronts and light blue temples. The temples which feature a translucent frosting design throughout and an etched design on the interior are offset by circular and oblong gems to the upper temple. L’Amy’s Nicole Miller frame, Amaryllis, also features a mixed color palette of brown and turquoise. Diamond and round gems in clear and turquoise are fitted onto triangular sections at the top of the temple creating a fun, geometric design. WHY: Not everyone can be born a royal, but getting a pair of frames fitted with gems and jewels can definitely allow any wearer to feel regal. Embellishments add the perfect little touch to frames without going full on sparkle and shine. They’re elegant with a pop of fun. jwilson@jobson.com
