STYLE Editor.Picks: Morgenthal Frederics and Mykita Make Mylon Magic By Jamie Wilson Monday, December 12, 2016 12:00 AM NEW YORK—This year, luxury eyewear brand, Morgenthal Frederics celebrated its 30th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the brand partnered with a series of collaborators including Mykita along with Cartier, Chrome Hearts and Maybach. For Mykita’s part in the collaboration, the company chose two iconic Morgenthal Frederics frames, the Lifesaver and Rhapsody, and rendered them in Mykita’s patented Mylon technology which is fully 3D printed. With this technology, the raw surface of the material is prepared and rendered wearable in a series of stages that give the frame a distinctive tactile and visual appeal. The frames are featured with flat mirrored lenses and a rough cut finish. The Lifesaver style features the well-known bridge and temple tip, inspired by the 1930s era but elevated to a futuristic look with particular elements and striking colors. The Rhapsody frame style is also taken from a vintage piece released in the original Morgenthal Frederics collection but is now modernized with flat lines, 3D printing and a unique finishing. Both styles showcase Mykita’s expertise in creating high quality technology-based eyewear coupled with the timeless styling of Morgenthal Frederics. Lifesaver and Rhapsody are available for $695 in all Morgenthal Frederics boutiques in the U.S. and Mykita boutiques internationally.
