NEW YORK—Etnia Barcelona is targeting a new audience, the street art community, with the launch of its Jean-Michel Basquiat collection. This newest collection of sunglasses is inspired by three original works by Basquiat—Fallen Angel, Glenn and In This Case.

The collection, which launched on May 12, will be sold exclusively at the following U.S locations for a month before opening up to other fashion retailers: Whitney Museum of American Art and Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, the Perez Art Museum and Alchemist in Miami and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago. Worldwide, the collection became available for sale in 20 top fashion shops on May 12 some of which are: Santa Eulalia in Barcelona and EKS in Madrid, 10 Corso Com in Milan, Colette in Paris, Selfridges in London and Archives in Toronto.

Etnia Barcelona, having built its story through reflections of art and photography icons, explores the world of graffiti and street art with this collection, which also includes references to jazz, rap, punk, pop culture and comics.

“This will be one of the most important collaborations between Etnia Barcelona and an artist,” said David Pellicer, founder and CEO of Etnia Barcelona. “With this collection we want to reinforce one of our values as brand, our culture linked. On our 15th anniversary, we want to celebrate this with a big event to demonstrate who we are and what makes us special.”

Additionally, on May 12 a launch party took place in DUMBO, Brooklyn. The event was closely linked with street art, music and the vibrancy of New York’s street art scene.

All styles retail for $275, and are available at www.etniabarcelona.com.
