STYLE Mykita and Designer Tim Coppens Collaborate on Tequila Sun Frame By Jamie Wilson Monday, February 13, 2017 12:00 AM BERLIN—Mykita and Tim Coppens have joined together to launch their first collaboration sunglass frame. The sunglass model, Tequila, exudes strong design and a futuristic vibe that expresses the shared focus on material development and the dynamic atmosphere of both brands. “I have always admired Mykita for as long as I can remember and felt their approach was similar to ours,” Tim Coppens said. “We share a desire to create an authentic product that has relevance now but also looks to the future by incorporating innovative technology and craftsmanship.” The Tequila frame takes a 90s dirt bike feel and translates it into modern eyewear design. The expansive front with its straight top line and the reduced form of the elongated keyhole bridge displays a monolithic look. The lenses which are cut from a curved surface add to the streamlined silhouette. “We easily connected over our sense of aesthetics,” Moritz Krueger, Mykita creative director said. “Tim shares our preoccupation with modern materials and production and sees the exceptional thing about Mykita Mylon. “For Tequila, we introduced a new milling process for the lenses, which are cut from a cylindrical shield. This adds to the model’s linear look and also creates the distinctive vertical reflections.” Created with Mykita Mylon technology, Tequila is made using 3D printing technology called Selective Laser Sintering. The pigmented matte surface contrasts with the mirrored lenses evoking the design language of sportswear. Tequila comes in five colorways and will be available in Mykita shops in April 2017.
