STYLE: Bold Face Bold Face: Get Sporty By Deirdre Carroll Friday, July 8, 2011 11:30 AM Bold Face explores the cult of celebrity and the styles, trends and brands that stars show off in movies, at events and living their daily lives. To be considered for inclusion please contact senior editor, Deirdre Carroll. Celebrity and sports are irrevocably entwined. For our latest edition of Bold Face we highlight three famous folk who have certainly embraced their sportier sides… Blake Griffin was the number one NBA draft pick in 2009 and he did not disappoint when he entered the league by joining the Los Angeles Clippers. The basketball superstar opted out of his last two years of college at the University of Oklahoma State enter the draft and he was selected by the Clippers in the first round. In his rookie season he was named Rookie of the Year and won the 2011 Slam Dunk Contest by impressing fans with a jump over a KIA Optima car to make the basket. The power forward is a favorite to take home the Best Play Award as voted by fans during the July 13 ESPY Awards on ESPN. No doubt the 6’ 10” baller will show up to the awards looking quite dapper, especially if he chooses to rock his Lacoste L615S sunglasses from Marchon… Models have to take care of their fitness. So do television hosts. So to do mothers of four if they hope to have a chance of keeping up with all those kids! Considering all three of those qualifications apply to Heidi Klum it only makes sense that upon occasion she will get snapped by the paparazzo while working out. It is however surprising that given all she does she still finds the time! Nonetheless, here is the stunning German out and about jogging along the Hudson River in New York. But leave it to her to prove a good run is no excuse not to look stylish! That is where Ms. Klum’s black John Varvatos V758 modified aviator sunglasses from Base Curve come in… Lastly, we have an actor/athlete hybrid, they are more common than you think – consider The Rock, Jason Statham and of course Arnold Schwarzenegger. If you have ever seen the opening sequence of “Iron Chef America” it will come as no surprise that “the Chairman” - actor Mark Dacascos - is a serious martial artist. As teenager he won numerous martial arts championships and remains proficient in Wun Hop Kuen Do, Capoeira, Wushu and Muay Thai. He got is acting break in 1985 and has starred in movies like “The Crow: Stairway to Heaven,” “Double Dragon” and “The Island of Dr. Moreau.” He competed in season 9 of the competitive dance series “Dancing with the Stars” and currently stars as bad guy Wo Fat in the CBS remake of “Hawaii Five-0.” An active guy needs a pair of sunglasses that will keep up with him, so its no wonder Dacascos relies on the Jake style from Wiley X.
