NEW YORK—Inspired by his background in music and art, artist Mark Mothersbaugh has collaborated with founder and CEO of Baumvision, Shane Baum, to launch the new Mothersbaugh and Baum eyewear line. According to the company, the collaboration pairs Mothersbaugh’s style with his personal journey of discovering the arts.

The first collection features three Beryllium metal-built styles in both sunglass and Rx lens options. According to Baum, the choice of using lightweight metal from an alkaline earth metals group was a conscious decision. The goal of the collection’s construction was to maintain bold shapes that remain lighter in both color and weight.

In the Mothersbaugh and Baum collection, styles include the Akronite, Mutato and Francesca. Akronite is a bold, rectangular frame. Being a native of Ohio, Mothersbaugh named the style as a “twist on the city of Akron, Ohio,” according to Baumvision.

The second style, Mutato, also the name of Motherbaugh’s production company derived from the combination of “mutant” and “potato,” is a more bookish, scholarly looking frame. The third frame, Francesca, named after the designer’s dog, is an oversized rounded unisex style.
