WHO: Ariel and Sebastian, G-Star Raw For the Oceans from Pharrell Williams, Zuhair Murad’s Spring 2015 Couture collection, Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear line and Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2015 Ready-to-Wear runway presentation.

WHAT: There is blue and then there is blue. Eyewear designers are updating the cool hue this season by adding depth, dimension, nuance and texture all evoking beachfronts and tropical shores for optical frames for men and women in blues that ripple and undulate like ocean waves.

WEAR: (L to R) The Seraphin Ashcroft frame from Ogi Eyewear offers unisex appeal in a deep variegated blue the color of the cooler depths at low tide. The entire brand new Jonathan Adler collection by REM Eyewear is inspired by mid-century Palm Springs and the JA 302 optical frame specifically speaks to sun-drenched cabanas and sparkling blue pools. Sanskrit has apparently 280 variations on words for water. The Modo 6512 ophthalmic frame in the aptly named lapis doesn’t feature nearly that many different colors but the green/blue/brown tortoise is certainly suggestive of the wondrous array of the colors found in the sea. Of course a brand popular with surfers would draw inspiration from the ocean. Here the Spy Asher frame comes in a totally gnarly cobalt, crystal and brown marble finish.

WHY: Blame it on a long season of cold and ice but Style.Pages is desperate for a little beach vacation and all the new blues on the market are like a balm to this winter weary soul. But not just any blue, by adding subtle patterns and variations, this latest trend has added a fresh spin to an eyewear color that should have already become a staple in any eyeglass connoisseur’s wardrobe.
