(L to R) Rich Dailey and Raanan Naftalovich of Shamir Insight celebrate the production of Walman Optical’s first pair of Shamir’s Glacier Plus UV AR coating with Walman’s Bryan Schueler and Marty Bassett.
SAN DIEGO—Shamir Insight announced that its Glacier Plus UV anti-reflective coating is now available from Walman Optical.

On Sept. 25, 2015, Shamir CEO Raanan Naftalovich and Rich Dailey, vice president of sales and business development, celebrated with Walman CEO Marty Bassett and vice president Bryan Schueler as the first Glacier Plus UV job came off the production line. Naftalovich cut the ceremonial red ribbon as the first day of production officially commenced.

Glacier Plus UV is produced with a unique material match hard coat process. A proprietary matte finish produces an AR that provides dramatically reduced cosmetic glare on the lens and reduces visual glare for the wearer, according to Shamir.

Glacier Plus UV’s Newton Ring reduction technology uses a material match process that significantly reduces “rainbows” (birefringence). Glacier Plus UV has a unique Slippery Plus hydrophobic and oleophobic top layer that repels liquids and allows easy cleaning due to a high contact angle.

Glacier Plus UV is available for all Shamir Freeform lenses in PPG’s CR39 monomer, Trivex, 1.67, 1.60, 1.74 and PolyPlus. Shamir’s proprietary PolyPlus process is unique to Shamir’s PolyPlus blanks and provides a high quality coating for polycarbonate with reduced visual Newton Rings, a major advantage with Glacier Plus UV.

Mark Becker, Shamir’s vice president of marketing and strategic partnerships said, “We are excited to have Walman Optical producing Glacier Plus UV and so pleased that the ribbon-cutting ceremony could take place during Walman’s 100th anniversary celebration. Our premium coating provides the patient with a cutting-edge, anti-reflective solution that truly helps to ReCreate Perfect Vision.”
