AppLovin, a mobile advertising personalization platform with locations in California and New York, projects that nearly 30 percent of purchases on Cyber Monday (Dec. 1, 2014) will originate from mobile devices. According to Katie Janson, VP corporate marketing at AppLovin, this is an increase from just 2 percent in 2010.

Katie Jansen, vice president of
Corporate Marketing at AppLovin and
founder of Igniting Solutions.

On the AppLovin blog, about Jansen writes, “As Cyber Monday continues to grow, overall transactions on mobile are also growing. We took a deeper dive into data from external sources and our own to chart the growth of m-Commerce on Cyber Monday and where it could be headed. Specifically, we’ll explain why we think 2014 could be the year when nearly one in three Cyber Monday transactions will originate from a mobile device.”

AdLovin based their prediction on internal data as well as data from third party sources, referring to reports from ComScore, IBM and Forrester in their own projection.

By extrapolating linear growth from ComScore’s 2013 numbers to 2014, Jansen said, mobile would account for 22.22 percent of Cyber Monday purchases. IBM’s recently released Seventh Annual Online Retail Holiday Readiness Report predicts that just under 25 percent of online purchases will originate from mobile in November 2014. Further, Forrester Research estimates that 29 percent of all online retail sales in the U.S. will be transacted on smartphones and tablets by the end of 2014.

“Cyber Monday presents an excellent opportunity for brands, publishers, or developers to execute their mobile advertising strategies and get a taste of the future of online commerce,” Jensen concludes.
